Every turn you roll two dice and move your fifteen checkers around the points toward your home board, where the goal is to bear them all off before your opponent does. Backgammon is equal parts luck and nerve: leave a lone checker — a blot — exposed and the owl can land on it, sending it all the way back to the bar to start its journey again. Roll doubles and you earn four moves instead of two, turning a single throw into a sudden surge. The board lights up your legal landing points in green, so you always see your options, while the dice show clearly which pips you have left to play. Decide when to stack safe points, when to gamble on a daring hit, and when to simply run for home — the right call shifts with every roll. How to play

• Roll the dice at the start of your turn — doubles give you four moves.

• Bear all fifteen checkers off once your whole team is home to win.
